Chapter 3

My laptop is a Gateway and i use windows XP. When I first started chapter three I was not familiar with Macintosh operating system or Mac OS, nor was I familiar with the Unix and Linux operating systems. when it comes to working with the software applications that I am familiar with, I found that I knew it very well. I am good at changing fonts, point sizes, and inserting tables and graphs.

The section that interested me the most was graphics and multimedia software. I put a lot of pictures on my computer, and i like to scan/import pictures as well. I thought it was the most interesting of all the sections because photo editing with programs like paint and photo shop is something i like to do and do very often.

Last week we learned how to create a news letter. Chapter three covers a lot of what we learned last week in class. The section on the word processing software was easy to follow because we had just worked on inserting clip art and borders and all that jazz.

Blog post #2

When I hear the word communication I think of a few people talking back and forth. but when it comes to computes there are several ways to "communicate." There is a communications network which is a way for computers to share data , information, and software. There is Communications software and communications channel that set up programs to manage and create pathways for the transition of data between computers. Probably the main way people communicate is through the Internet. The World Wide Web provides us with links designed for the users to go from one web page to the next n a matter of seconds. searching for information on the web is becoming easier with search engines such as GOOGLE and Ask Jeeves, and Multimedia is becoming more accessible with the advances in streaming video and audio.
Perhaps the most useful part of the internet today in society is e-mail. People use e-mail to get important mssages and files sent to them in a matter of secconds. E-mail is a fast, easy, and convienient way to comunicate with others. Websites such as Myspace, facebook, live jurnal, and blogspot also allow people to comunicate conviently throughout the day, on a lunch break or before class.
Last week in class we took a basic skills test on how to use a computer. The test wasn not all that bad. It did teach me a few things i did not know how to do. Hopefully by the end of this class, i will know allof the secrets to creating a test on microsoft word, and I will be more familiar with the computer in general.

BLOG #1

I learned a lot of information in this first chapter. I knew a little bit about computers: personal computers, PDA’s and smart phones, but I did not realize the extent to which American life revolves around computer technology. Learning how to operate a computer will help me in “the real world” because according to the text book by the year 2010, all occupations will involve the use of computers on a daily basis. When it comes to using technology in the classroom, I am all for it. Power points keep kids interested, and having internet in classrooms can be a very influential and informative, in was that text books lack.
I do agree with the book on Computing in the Digital Age. I do believe that technology allows greater participation when it comes to the creative process, especially in the classroom. The computer is a window of opportunity in which students can express themselves in a variety of different ways. Especially with Keller’s model, acknowledging the different ways students learn and attempting to help them succeed in which ever way the student feels more comfortable: Attention wise, through relevance, challenge/confidence, and satisfaction/ success.
When used in the right way technology can greatly improve students’ achievements and help them to learn objectives that will help them out in the world.

My First BLOG

My experiences with technology or lack there of in my case. I know how to use my laptop, basic functions like word, power point, and iTunes. I can use the internet search google, check my e-mail and my myspace and that is about all.
In this class I hope to expand my knowledge when it comes to computers. I hope to find some better search engines, faster ways to do research, and maybe set up a wiki site =)

I am a active learner I am very "lets try it out and see where we end up!" I am also very visual. I learn best when I see pictures, and pie charts explaining data to me. I am borderline when it comes to sensing and sequental. I do like to follow logical patterns but every once in a while it just comes to me.
